Busting and Confirming Pins One at a Time

Pin Busters: Cake Batter Fudge

As if I need one more blog to write.  But the idea for this one just wouldn't go away.  I am a sucker for trying out pins I see on Pinterest, whether recipes, crafts, home decor, etc.  If you try pins regularly enough, you know that some of them are a complete bust.  They amount to nothing more than a pretty picture and an alluring description of how this pin will change your life.

Like the popular Discovery show, Myth Busters, my goal is to try a pins as described by the source and either Confirm a pin as being worthy of replication or Bust a pin and deem it undoable.  Pins may even be designated as Plausible if they show promise with a few potential changes.  Seems straight forward enough.

The first pin I decided to test was Cake Batter Fudge--10 Minute Recipe.  Oh baby.  This sounded too good to be true.  Cake batter and fudge are two of my most favorite desserts, and in only 10 minutes?  It was almost as if it were a dare!  Mwahaha.

Here is my rough analysis of the Cake Batter Fudge pin:
  • This recipe was complete in 10 minutes or less.  It was super easy to put together as the source claims.  The only change I made was doubling the recipe.
  • After 1 hour in the fridge, the fudge was cool but not cold.  It was a little flimsy when cut.  I'll reevaluate the firmness after it has been in the fridge overnight.
  • The texture was nice and smooth, minus the sprinkles.
  • How did it taste?  Trust me when I say it tasted just like you might expect, except a little better.  Have a big glass of milk ready!
My cake batter fudge, complete with a kid fingerprint.  A double recipe makes 1/2" thick fudge in an 11"x7" baking dish.
The final designation:
Make it.  Eat it.  Don't regret it.  Spend an extra $2 at the store next time and cancel your appointment with the therapist.

Happy Pinning!
